Memories

It’s always fun to look back at the past and see the history we’ve witnessed in our brief time. Not just the major events, but those personal memories we hold so dear to us. Nostalgia and memorabilia are almost synonymous, but have different meanings. Nostalgia has to do with the memories we have. Memorabilia is the actual physical item that can stir those nostalgic memories.

Most people don’t want memorabilia for profit. They obtain items because it reminds them of a better time in their life. Possibly a more simple, less worrisome time. Nostalgic items bring a feeling of wellness. How do you collect memorabilia?

Determine how much you’re wanting to spend on your memorabilia and what type of nostalgic item you are going to acquire. There are all types of memorabilia available on the market place. Only you can place a true value on your item. Yes, when talking
sports memorabilia, the intrinsic value of a sports card can be determined for say, a Babe Ruth or Hank Aaron card, but what about a lesser known player? Can a value be placed on the player who vanished into obscurity, but was the batter who hit the foul ball your dad caught and gave to you, the first time he brought you t a ball park?

Visit a website dealing in nostalgia and memorabilia. An excellent one that offers a direct access to discounted memorabilia items is NostalgiaFinder.Com. At NostalgiaFinder.com, you can find obscure items listed in the store pages, or by using their search option. It's a great way to find that hard to locate item and to visit some memories.

A price guide can be helpful in determining how much each item of memorabilia is worth. Price guides for sports memorabilia are common, but for the more obscure items, finding a value guide may prove difficult - if one even exists. Be sure you purchase a price guide that corresponds with the type of memorabilia that you are interested in collecting.

Begin buying memorabilia by starting out with a few relatively inexpensive items for your collection. Often the interest in “memorabilia collections” will wane as time goes on, with the collector opting to keep only one expensive and prized possession. You can purchase memorabilia at card shops, trade shows or online at auction sites like ebay.com.

To keep your items safe, display your memorabilia in a clean, dry location in your home. If you are collecting sports cards, keep them in their jackets. The value of sports memorabilia and all nostalgic items goes down considerably if the item gets damaged.

Whatever you collect, be sure to treasure it. Share your old memorabilia and nostalgic items with your children, or grandchildren. Some of my fondest memories was of my grandfather bringing out his collection of toy cars and letting me play with them. To him they had no other value than as a way for him to share his childhood memories with me. When I inadvertently broke one, he never got angry at the loss of value. He simply said, “Toys get broken, but if they don’t, you get to play with them again - and so will your children.” I never broke another.
